The BionicBack makes working on the roof easier
MAFELL and hTRIUS announce their cooperation
Horb am Neckar – 6 March 2024 – Exoskeletons have established themselves in various working environments as an indispensable solution for physical relief and support. This innovative technology plays a particularly important role in the roofing and carpentry trades, where employees perform repetitive and ergonomically demanding tasks. At DACH+HOLZ, MAFELL AG and hTRIUS GmbH will present the MAFELL BionicBack powered by hTRIUS for the first time.
Craft trades are demanding. Roofers and carpenters in particular face ergonomic challenges. For example, they lift and carry heavy tiles and beams, often repeatedly bending into an awkward position. When working on roofs in particular, employees often find themselves in positions that put strain on the musculoskeletal system. This is why the solution developed by both companies is a must-have in these professions: the MAFELL BionicBack specifically takes on some of the weight when lifting and carrying heavy materials such as roof tiles, slate or roof panels. Thanks to its special design, the exoskeleton is able to reliably absorb internal and external forces generated during lifting and carrying and distribute them evenly across the body. This technology not only protects the back and health of employees, but also increases their work performance.
BionicBack: Revolutionary technology for safe and healthy workplaces
The safety and health of employees are at the heart of every innovative solution. Back pain, slipped discs and musculoskeletal disorders remain among the most common reasons for sick leave. People who lift and transport heavy loads on a daily basis are particularly at risk. In such cases, a high number of objects to be moved quickly leads to physical strain, regardless of weight.
The BionicBack underwent extensive testing and studies during its development. The research focused on measuring muscle fatigue and relief. The results were impressive: muscle activity was reduced by up to 30 per cent, while muscle fatigue decreased by up to 86 per cent. The average holding time increased by 55 per cent, which means that users remain fit and productive for longer.
The exoskeleton helps to make workplaces safer, healthier and more efficient. Using the product can reduce injuries while increasing employee well-being, productivity and efficiency.
The perfect mix of support, user-friendliness and suitability for everyday use MAFELL and hTRIUS are revolutionising roof work. The focus is on user-friendliness, because only systems that are comfortable to wear will actually be used.
The system combines flexibility and rigidity, relief and posture. The elastic back structure adapts perfectly to the natural shape of the spine. It also makes it easier for the wearer to find the optimal lifting position and reduces the formation of a hunched back.
Special attention has also been paid to freedom of movement. The slim and innovative design, the free-wheel function and the optimal fit ensure that freedom of movement is not restricted. Despite its high performance, the BionicBack weighs only 1,180 grams. It can be easily combined with different types of workwear, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Long-term use of the BionicBack is particularly evident in the vitality of employees and can lead to reduced absenteeism, as the exoskeleton often relieves the wearer of several tonnes per day.
"The aim is to use BionicBack to create real added value for users and make their work easier. To achieve this, we focus on innovation, research and close customer relationships. We benefit from the sales cooperation thanks to MAFELL's high brand awareness and excellent access to the target group of roofing and carpentry companies," says Dominik Heinzelmann, managing director and founder of hTRIUS. "The BionicBack product is in line with our claim of 'creating excellence'," emphasises Thorsten Bühl, CEO of MAFELL AG.
For those who would like to try out the BionicBack and feel the relief for themselves, we recommend visiting MAFELL at Dach+Holz from 5 to 8 March 2024 – Hall 9, Stand 103A.
